Usage Note
Peignoir comes from peigner (to comb hair), reflecting its original use as a garment worn while grooming. In modern French it refers to any bathrobe or dressing gown. A shorter terry-cloth bathrobe may also be called un peignoir de bain to distinguish it from a full-length dressing gown.
Examples
"Il met son peignoir après la douche."
Natural Translation
He puts on his bathrobe after the shower.
