lors

then, at that time

adverb LOR Less Common

Origin: from Latin illa hora (that hour)

Usage Note

lors is almost never used alone; it appears in fixed phrases: lors de ('at the time of', 'during') and dès lors ('from then on', 'therefore'). Lors de la réunion means 'during the meeting'. Avoid confusing it with lorsque ('when'), which introduces a clause.

Examples

"Lors de son discours, il a pleuré."

Natural Translation

During his speech, he cried.

Literal Translation

At the time of his speech, he cried.
