Also means
lack
Usage Note
Absence covers both the state of not being present (son absence se remarque — her absence is noticeable) and a lack of something (une absence de preuves — a lack of evidence). The phrase en l'absence de (in the absence of) is a useful preposition group. The adjective absent/absente and verb s'absenter (to absent oneself) are closely related.
Examples
"Son absence a inquiété toute la famille."
Natural Translation
Her absence worried the whole family.
