Also means
frost
Usage Note
Gel covers both the hair/skin product sense and the meteorological sense of ground frost (gel nocturne = 'overnight frost'). The verb geler means 'to freeze', and il gèle is the impersonal weather expression. Do not confuse gel with givre (hoarfrost) or verglas (black ice).
Examples
"Il utilise du gel pour coiffer ses cheveux."
Natural Translation
He uses gel to style his hair.
