Accrocher means to hang something up or to catch on a hook or snag. S'accrocher (reflexive) means to hold on, cling, or persevere — a very common figurative use: accroche-toi means 'hang in there'. It can also mean two vehicles collide lightly: ils se sont accrochés means they had a fender-bender.
