Usage Note
Amasser implies gathering large quantities over time, often of wealth, objects, or knowledge. The reflexive s'amasser means 'to pile up / gather' (of crowds or objects: la foule s'amasse). It is slightly more formal than accumuler but both are standard. Amasser une fortune is a set phrase for building up a fortune.
Examples
