très

very

adverb treh Common

Usage Note

Très is the standard intensifier before adjectives and adverbs, but it famously cannot modify a verb — to want something very much, you switch to beaucoup. With a handful of nouns it forms fixed phrases like avoir très faim (to be very hungry), where English would never say 'very hunger'.

Examples

"C'est très beau ici."

Natural Translation

It's very beautiful here.
