Usage Note
Affreusement is derived from affreux/affreuse ('dreadful') and is used as an intensifier as well as a literal descriptor: affreusement laid ('dreadfully ugly') or affreusement douloureux ('terribly painful'). In conversational French it functions much like terriblement or horriblement, and the three are largely interchangeable.
Examples
"Le film était affreusement long et ennuyeux."
Natural Translation
The film was dreadfully long and boring.
