Souillon historically referred to a kitchen drudge or scullery maid doing dirty work, but today it is used informally and pejoratively for a messy, dirty, or slovenly person of either gender. It can be applied to both men and women despite its historically feminine connotation. The word carries a strong register of contempt or reproach.
