Usage Note

Robot entered French from Czech via the 1921 play R.U.R. by Karel Čapek, where robota meant forced labour. In French kitchens, un robot or robot ménager commonly refers to a food processor. The final -t is silent. The adjective robotique and noun robotique (robotics) are in frequent use.
