Usage Note
Oncle is one of the few French family terms that is the same or very close in English due to shared Latin roots. Its female counterpart is tante (aunt). In informal speech, tonton is a common affectionate variant children use for uncle, just as tata is used for aunt.
Examples
"Mon oncle habite en Bretagne."

My uncle lives in Brittany.
