Usage Note

Nul (feminine: nulle) works both as a determiner (nul doute = 'no doubt') and as an adjective meaning zero or worthless (ce film est nul = 'this film is rubbish'). The legal phrase nul et non avenu means 'null and void'. In French schools, nul on a scale of 0-20 literally means a zero mark.
