Larme specifically means a teardrop or tear shed from emotion — les larmes aux yeux ('with tears in one's eyes'). The phrase fondre en larmes means 'to burst into tears', and feigned 'crocodile tears' are larmes de crocodile. In an informal register une larme de can also mean a tiny drop of liquid, as in une larme de cognac ('a drop of cognac').
