Honorer means to show honor toward someone, but also to fulfil a commitment — honorer un chèque means to honor a check, and honorer un contrat means to meet the terms of a contract. The noun honneur (honor) and the adjective honorable share the same root. The reflexive s'honorer de means to pride oneself on.
