Usage Note
Folk is an invariable masculine noun borrowed directly from English and used specifically for the musical genre. It is almost always used as a modifier in musique folk or alone as a genre label. Unlike English, it does not extend to mean 'people' in French; peuple or gens covers that sense.
Examples
"Il joue du folk depuis son enfance."
Natural Translation
He has been playing folk music since childhood.
