Basse in music denotes the lowest voice or instrument range and also a bass guitar or double bass. It is the feminine form of the adjective bas ('low'), and the two words share the same pronunciation. La basse continue ('basso continuo') is the important Baroque music term; in a band, le bassiste plays la basse.
