enrouler

to roll up, wind around

verb ahn-roo-LEH Rare

Usage Note

Enrouler means to coil or wrap something around itself or another object: enrouler une couverture autour de soi (to wrap a blanket around oneself). The reflexive s'enrouler means to coil up or curl around: le serpent s'enroule. Its antonym is dérouler, to unroll or unfurl, which also gives the common phrase se dérouler (to take place, to unfold).

Examples

"Elle enroule le fil autour de la bobine."

Natural Translation

She winds the thread around the spool.
