encore

still

adverb on-KOR Common

Also means

again

Usage Note

Encore covers a lot of ground — 'still', 'again', 'yet', and 'more' all at once, so encore du pain ? offers more bread while pas encore means not yet. English borrowed it whole for the theatrical shout, though the French actually call out bis ! instead.

Examples

"Il dort encore."

Natural Translation

He's still sleeping.

Literal Translation

He sleeps still
