Usage Note
Deuxième is the ordinal form of deux and is used when there are more than two items in a series. When there are only two, French speakers often prefer second(e). It functions as both adjective and noun (le deuxième, the second one). In floor numbering, le deuxième étage is what English speakers call the third floor.
