Usage Note

Déshabiller is the antonym of habiller (to dress). The reflexive se déshabiller (to get undressed) is the everyday form. Like all -iller verbs, the -ill- is pronounced as a y sound. The noun déshabillé (a light dressing gown) is derived from the past participle and has been borrowed into English.
