Usage Note

Ci is almost never used alone; it appears in compound demonstratives like celui-ci (this one), ici (here), ci-dessus (above), and ci-dessous (below). It is the counterpart of in pairs such as celui-ci / celui-là (this one / that one) and ci-joint (enclosed, as in a letter).
