boulangerie

bakery

noun boo-lahn-ZHREE Rare

Usage Note

Boulangerie is an institution of French daily life: by law, a bakery labeled boulangerie artisanale must bake its bread on-site from scratch. The baker is le boulanger / la boulangère. A pâtisserie sells pastries and cakes, but most neighborhood boulangeries sell both bread and viennoiseries (croissants, pains au chocolat).

Examples

"J'achète ma baguette à la boulangerie du coin."

Natural Translation

I buy my baguette at the corner bakery.
