balayage
sweeping, scanning; highlighting (hair)
noun bah-lah-YAZH Rare
Usage Note
Balayage derives from balayer (to sweep) and has two common uses: a technical sweep or scan (radar balayage), and the hair-colouring technique where colour is painted on freehand to create a sun-kissed gradient effect. The hairdressing sense has been adopted internationally as a loanword in English.
