Usage Note

Assoiffer means to cause intense thirst, and is almost always used in the past participle as an adjective: assoiffé (parched, thirsting). Figuratively assoiffé de pouvoir (power-hungry) or assoiffé de vengeance (thirsting for revenge) are very common expressions in literary and journalistic French.
