Usage Note

Évangéliste refers to one of the four Gospel authors (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) in a religious context, but is also used for Protestant street preachers and, in modern usage, passionate advocates of a cause or technology ('a tech evangelist'). The feminine form is évangéliste (invariable spelling). The related noun évangile means 'gospel'.
