Usage Note

Équitable means fair in the sense of impartial distribution or treatment — closer to 'equitable' than simply 'fair' (juste). It is invariable in gender. Le commerce équitable is the standard French term for 'fair trade'. The related noun is l'équité (equity, fairness).
