Usage Note
Zinc has two common uses: the chemical element (used in galvanising metal) and, in colloquial French, the counter of a café or bar (prendre un verre au zinc). The latter usage comes from old zinc-topped bar counters. Zinguer is the verb for coating with zinc, and a zingueur is a roofer who works with zinc sheet metal.
