Venue is the noun form of venir ('to come') and refers to the arrival or coming of someone. It is used in formal or literary contexts; in everyday speech arrivée is more common. The phrase bienvenue ('welcome') is built on it. Note that in English, 'venue' (a place) is a false friend.
