tôt

early

adverb TOH Common

Also means

soon

Usage Note

Tôt means 'early' when describing time of day or timing, and 'soon' in phrases like 'le plus tôt possible' (as soon as possible). Its opposite is tard (late). The circumflex on the ô marks a historical s that was dropped — the older spelling was tost.
