Usage Note
Troll entered French from English (and ultimately from Scandinavian mythology) in two senses: the folkloric creature of Scandinavian legend, and the internet troll who provokes and disrupts online discussions. The verb troller (informal) means 'to troll' online. In gaming and fantasy contexts, the original mythological sense is common; in social-media conversations, the disruptive-user sense dominates.
