Usage Note

Tarir describes a source of water drying up, or figuratively a flow of words, inspiration, or resources being exhausted. The phrase ne pas tarir sur means 'to go on and on about' — for example, il ne tarit pas d'éloges sur elle ('he can't stop singing her praises'). The reflexive se tarir is also common, meaning 'to run dry'.
