Usage Note
Sérieusement functions both as a manner adverb ('in a serious way') and as a conversational intensifier equivalent to 'seriously?' or 'honestly'. In informal speech it often starts a sentence to express disbelief or emphasis — similar to English 'seriously, though'. The adjective sérieux is the base form.
Examples
"Sérieusement, tu n'as pas vu ce film?"
Natural Translation
Seriously, you haven't seen that film?

Seriously, you not-have not seen this film?
