Usage Note
Sort can mean one's fate or lot in life, but also a magical spell (jeter un sort = 'to cast a spell'). Tirer au sort means 'to draw lots' or decide by lottery. Do not confuse with the verb sortir (to go out) — sort is its third-person singular present (il sort), an identical form with a different meaning.
Examples
"Il accepte son sort avec courage."
Natural Translation
He accepts his fate with courage.
