Usage Note

Royal has an irregular feminine royale and an irregular masculine plural royaux. It appears in set phrases: la famille royale (the royal family), la marine royale (the Royal Navy). Informally, c'est royal can mean 'it's magnificent' or, sarcastically, 'how generous of you.' The noun royauté means royalty or kingship.
