anarchist

noun adjective ah-nar-SHEEST Rare

Origin: From Greek anarchia, 'absence of a ruler'.

Usage Note

Anarchiste is both a noun (an anarchist) and an adjective (anarchist, anarchistic). It is invariable for gender as a noun but takes feminine agreement as an adjective: une pensée anarchiste. In colloquial French it can loosely describe someone who disregards rules, beyond its strict political sense.
