refourguer

to flog off, to unload (informal)

verb ruh-foor-GEH Rare

Also means

to pass on (something unwanted)

Usage Note

Refourguer is informal/slang for getting rid of something by selling it cheaply or palming it off on someone else — refourguer une vieille voiture means to flog off an old car. It carries a slightly shady connotation, as if the seller knows the item is not worth much. A more neutral synonym is revendre (to resell).

Examples

"Il a refourgué sa vieille moto à un ami."

Natural Translation

He flogged his old motorbike off to a friend.
