Usage Note

Rancoeur (also spelled rancœur) denotes a deep, lingering resentment. It is always used without an article in expressions like sans rancoeur ('no hard feelings'). The related verb rancir means to go rancid, sharing the same Latin root rancere. Do not confuse with rancune (f), which is more everyday grudge-bearing.

"Il garde une profonde rancoeur envers son ancien patron."
