Usage Note

Râper means to grate food — cheese, carrots, nutmeg — using a râpe (f), a grater. It is a regular -er verb. Du fromage râpé ('grated cheese') is a very common supermarket product label. Râpe can also refer historically to a rasp (woodworking tool).
