Usage Note
Bar is a direct borrowing from English and refers to a drinking establishment. In France, the café-bar is a central social institution. It is also used as a unit of pressure in scientific and everyday contexts (les pneus sont à 2 bars). Unlike English, French does not use 'pub' as the default — bar and café are the standard terms.
