Usage Note
Paix is always spelled with a final -x that is never pronounced. The expression ficher la paix (or the cruder foutre la paix) means 'to leave someone alone' or 'to give someone a break' — very common in informal speech. Faire la paix means 'to make peace' or 'to make up' after a quarrel.
