Oubli is the act or state of forgetting, or an instance of having forgotten something (un oubli de ma part — an oversight on my part). The phrase tomber dans l'oubli (to fall into oblivion) is idiomatic. Distinguish from oubliette (a dungeon pit) which derives from the same root.
