Usage Note
Nominer is a relatively recent borrowing from English, used almost exclusively in the context of awards and prizes — être nominé aux César (to be nominated for the César awards). In formal administrative French, nommer remains the standard verb for official appointments. Nominer is widely accepted in entertainment journalism but may still be flagged as an anglicism by prescriptive grammarians.
