mythology

noun mee-tol-oh-ZHEE Rare

Usage Note

Mythologie refers both to a body of myths (Greek, Roman, Norse, etc.) and to the academic study of myths. The adjective is mythologique and the agent noun un mythologue. In French, mythologie grecque and mythologie romaine appear frequently in school curricula. Colloquially, c'est du mythe dismisses something as legendary or untrue, though mythologie itself stays formal.

Examples
