Usage Note

Myrtille refers to the wild European bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus), smaller and more intensely flavoured than the cultivated North American blueberry — though in modern French supermarkets both are sold as myrtilles. The plant is common in Alpine and Vosges woodlands. Confiture de myrtilles (blueberry jam) is a popular regional product.
