Usage Note
Mollir means to become soft, weak, or less forceful — said of wind dying down (le vent mollit), resolve weakening, or muscles going slack. It is an intransitive verb of the second group (-ir) and is distinct from ramollir (to make soft), which can be transitive. A near-synonym is faiblir (to weaken).
