Millénaire can be a noun (a millennium, a thousand-year period) or an adjective meaning 'thousand-year-old, ancient' — une tradition millénaire is an age-old tradition. As a noun it is masculine; as an adjective it is invariable in gender but agrees in number. The turn of the year 2000 is often called le passage au nouveau millénaire.
