Usage Note
Mets (always spelled with a final 's', even in the singular) is a formal or literary word for a prepared dish or food item, most common in menus and gastronomy writing. Everyday speech uses plat instead. The word has no plural change since it already ends in 's'. The related verb mettre (to put) shares a root.
