Là-dessous is a compound locative adverb built from là (there) + dessous (underneath). It answers the question 'where, specifically?' when pointing at something below. Contrast with là-dessus (on top of that / on top there) and là-dedans (inside there). It can also be used figuratively: il y a quelque chose de louche là-dessous means 'something fishy is going on'.
