lampe
lamp, light
noun LAHMP Less Common
Origin: From Greek 'lampas', torch.
Usage Note
Lampe is the general word for a lamp or light fixture. Une lampe de poche is a torch/flashlight, and une lampe de chevet is a bedside lamp. The noun lampiste (historically a lamp lighter) is now used informally for a low-ranking employee who gets blamed for things — c'est toujours le lampiste qui paie.
Examples
"Elle a allumé la lampe de chevet."
Natural Translation
She turned on the bedside lamp.
