Usage Note

Jaloux (feminine: jalouse) describes both romantic jealousy and envious jealousy over possessions or success. Être jaloux de means 'to be jealous/envious of'. The final 'x' is silent. La jalousie is the noun, and it also means a type of slatted window blind — same word, very different thing.
